Screw you DA, I'm going home!posted Aug 20th 2006, 12:06AM

For those of you new or not keeping up, let me explain. A few days ago dA decided to that 39 of my art pieces, basically my entire signature banners collection, where copyright infringements and deleted them. Now I know that many of you don't care about signature banners, some of you believe it's not "art", and some others think I simply have not talent. That's beside the point though, as 98% of my gallery, a few pieces that I have had up for over a year, where torn down because it's suddenly considered "Bad" to have images of another persons work in them.
While I can somewhat understand thinking there might be a legality issue, let me say why I believe I am in the right and what I am doing is ok. First off, I am not using any of these images to make a profit. That signature with Link signature from the Legend of Zelda series I made? Never saw a dime off of it. Secondly, signature making and the use of cropped images in signature banners is a largely popular form of self expression on message boards. There are even entire communities, such as Gamerenders.com that are based mainly on the art of creating renders, or "cropping images", and creating signatures. They even have large sections dedicated to tutorials, images, and various other tools needed to create those pictures you see at the bottom of someone's posts on a message board. Finally, if what I am doing is so bad and is breaking so many copyright laws, then tell me why hasn't Nintendo, Sony, Blizzard, etc taken legal action against aforementioned mentioned communities or even allow the use of signatures on there message boards? On that matter, why is it that on Nintendo's own official forum, Nsider, it's not punished at all, but in fact encouraged by several tutorials and even a signature shop, so people who are not willing to learn can get there own copyright violati...I mean signature?
I know I'm just barking in the dark here, but I felt like getting my feelings out there. As for what I plan to do from here, I plan on taking my ball and playing in another sandbox. I'm sorry but having my entire gallery pretty much wiped is something I cannot stand for. I know this is dA's house and they can make the rules as they wish, but as I tell everyone who whines and complains about the rules on a message board or in the chat rooms I administer, "If you don't want to play by our rules, there's the door."
I don't want to play by dA's rules.
I plan on wiping what's left of my gallery, along with the rest of my journal entries except for this goodbye note. I will keep my favorites and deviants on my list, just because I don't like the museum doesn't mean I can't support what friends I've made here.
If you're interested in keeping up with my artwork or my journal, feel free to stop by my new home and my Blog:
I may work on a different gallery, or give Sheezy Art another try, I'm unsure. For right now though I intend to go back to updating the gallery my best friend ever so kindly gave me.
